The Oceansider: Who, What and Why?
The Oceansider is a free, no-advertising newsletter created and maintained as a community resource by Oregon native and Oceanside resident Jerry Keene. A retired attorney, Jerry and his husband Rob Hoeper built a vacation home in Oceanside in 1991, where they retired to become full-time residents in 2010. Like everyone who discovers it, Jerry fell in love with the Village and searched for ways to preserve its livability and charm. The Oceansider is a natural extension of those efforts.
A perspective honed by years of activism and advocacy for Oceanside.
It takes more than mere writing ability and an interest in local issues to produce a worthwhile community newsletter. It also requires editorial judgment informed by historical perspective, a network of credible sources and a practical knowledge of "how things work" in the community and county. That takes experience and involvement. When choosing newsletter topics and offering commentary, Jerry Keene draws on his involvement in these local organizations and initiatives:
